WHAT´S IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standardized language proficiency test used to measure the English language skills of non-native English speakers. The test is divided into four sections: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Test takers can choose to take either the academic module or the general training module, depending on their specific needs.

The listening and reading sections consist of multiple-choice questions that assess a test taker’s comprehension skills. The writing section requires test takers to produce two written pieces, an essay and a letter or report, in response to a prompt. The speaking section is a face-to-face interview with a certified examiner and measures a test taker’s ability to communicate in spoken English.

The test is scored on a scale of 0-9, with 0 being the lowest and 9 being the highest band score. The band score reflects a test taker’s overall ability to communicate effectively in English. A minimum score is required by many universities, immigration agencies, and professional organizations in order to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

Test takers can register for the exam online and must pay a test fee. The test is administered by authorized test centers around the world, and test takers must follow specific test rules and regulations. Test anxiety is a common issue for many test takers, and effective test preparation and test-taking strategies can help alleviate this.

Overall, the IELTS exam is an important tool for non-native English speakers who wish to demonstrate their English language proficiency for academic, professional, or immigration purposes.

WHY TO CHOOSE IELTS?

There are several reasons why passing the IELTS exam can be beneficial for non-native English speakers. Here are some of the main reasons:

  1. Study abroad: Many universities and colleges in English-speaking countries require international students to have a minimum IELTS score as a part of their admission process. Achieving a good score on the IELTS exam can help students meet these requirements and gain admission to their desired institution.

  2. Immigration: IELTS is recognized by many countries as evidence of English language proficiency for immigration purposes. A good IELTS score can improve a candidate’s chances of being approved for a visa or permanent residency.

  3. Employment: Many employers in English-speaking countries require job candidates to have a certain level of English language proficiency. A high IELTS score can demonstrate a candidate’s ability to communicate effectively in the workplace and may give them a competitive advantage in the job market.

  4. Professional accreditation: Many professional organizations require a minimum IELTS score as part of their accreditation process. Achieving a good score on the IELTS exam can open up opportunities for professional advancement and recognition.

  5. Personal development: Learning a new language is an excellent way to broaden one’s horizons and develop new skills. Preparing for and taking the IELTS exam can be a challenging but rewarding experience that can help non-native English speakers improve their communication skills and gain confidence in using the English language.

Overall, passing the IELTS exam can lead to many benefits, including improved educational, employment, and immigration opportunities, as well as personal growth and development.

 TYPES OF IELTS EXAM:

There are two types of IELTS exams: the IELTS Academic and the IELTS General Training.

  1. IELTS Academic: The IELTS Academic is designed for students who plan to study in an English-speaking country at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. It is also suitable for those who wish to register with a professional body or seek employment in an English-speaking country in a profession such as medicine or engineering. This exam tests the English language proficiency in academic contexts, and the tasks focus on academic language and topics.

  2. IELTS General Training: The IELTS General Training is designed for those who are going to English-speaking countries for work experience, training programs, or secondary education. This exam tests the English language proficiency in general social and workplace contexts, and the tasks focus on everyday situations and topics.

Both exams consist of four parts: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The listening and reading sections are the same for both exams, but the writing and speaking sections are different, with the tasks reflecting the respective purpose of each exam.

It is important to determine which type of IELTS exam to take based on the intended purpose of the test. For example, if a student plans to study at a university in an English-speaking country, they should take the IELTS Academic exam. If a person is planning to immigrate or work in an English-speaking country, the IELTS General Training exam may be more appropriate.
